The 28-year-old was in her apartment around 7.30 p.m. when she noticed that someone was violently handling the front door. The 43-year-old may have tried to unlock the neighbor’s door with his own apartment key, said police spokesman Christopher Verhnjak. When the woman finally opened the door, the stranger stood in front of her, broke into the apartment, hit the woman and pushed her out. The 28-year-old fled to a neighbor and called the police.
When officers from the Landstrasse city police command knocked on the door, the Austrian opened it with a knife in his hand and behaved extremely aggressively. He was arrested and put up vigorous resistance. One officer was injured in the genital area.
