Russia accuses YouTube of blocking Parliament’s account and promised retaliation

“The United States wants to have a monopoly on the difuse of information”said the leader in his Telegram account. “We can’t allow it”he assured, according to statements reproduced by the AFP news agency.

The channel within the platform, which has more than 145,000 followers, broadcasts extracts from parliamentary debates, interviews with Russian deputies and live broadcasts.

“Everything seems to indicate that YouTube signed its own sentence”the spokeswoman for Russian diplomacy, Maria Zajarova, reacted on Telegram.

The Russian Duma noted that it was prepared for the blockade and stressed that it is actively developing its activity on other platforms, such as RuTube and Telegram.

Meanwhile, Russia’s telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor has asked Google to “immediately” restore the “Duma-TV” account.

After the start of the war in Ukraine, YouTube suspended the broadcast of its advertisements in Russia, as well as canceled the monetization of the videos of the Russian news channel Russia Today (RT).

In response, Roskomnadzor announced that it has banned Google from advertising in the country, after accusing YouTube of spreading “false information” about Russian forces in Ukraine.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, called for “a firm global response” after the deadly bombing of a train station in Kramatorsk, in eastern Ukraine, full of civilians trying to flee the Russian invasion.

“This is another Russian war crime for which someone involved will have to be held accountable,” Zelenskiy said in a video message after the missile strike that killed 52 people, including five children, on Friday.

“World powers have already condemned Russia’s attack on Kramatorsk. We expect a strong global response against this war crime.”he added.

US President Joe Biden denounced a “horrible atrocity” by Moscow which, for its part, denied its involvement in the attack, assuring that it did not have the type of missile used and that it had been a Ukrainian “provocation”.

However, a senior official american defense noted that the Russians “initially reported a successful attack” and that “they only retracted after reports of civilian casualties.”

In fact, the Russian Ministry of Defense had reported on Friday the destruction with high-precision missiles of “weapons and other military equipment at the Pokrovsk, Sloviansk and Barbinkove stations”, locations near Kramatorsk, the “capital” of the of the Donbas still under control of kyiv.
