The sewage treatment plant of the Hallstättersee Cleanliness Association will be expanded by 50 percent over the next two years at a cost of 7.7 million euros. Instead of 22,000 population equivalents, it will in future have a capacity of 33,000 population equivalents. 27 percent of the costs are paid for with federal funds for urban water management. The Hallstättersee Association for Keeping Clean consists of the communities of Bad Goisern, Obertraun, Hallstatt and Gosau.
The majority of the work will be completed before Christmas, announces Managing Director Hansjörg Schenner. The construction work will take place while the sewage treatment plant is in operation.
“The expansion of the sewage treatment plant is one of the largest municipal investments of the four World Heritage communities in the last 20 years,” says Schenner. “It ensures the disposal of waste water and thus the purity of our streams, rivers and lakes. Environmental and climate protection are investments in the future – we owe that to our children and grandchildren.”
