“When violence is used, nothing is known about God, who is Father, nor about the others, who are brothers”, lamented the Pope during the ceremony that he led in Saint Peter’s Square and that marks the beginning of the Vatican celebrations for Easter.
“We forget why we are in the world and we come to commit absurd cruelties. We see it in the madness of war, where Christ is crucified again”raised in his twenty-third reference to the conflict since the start of the Russian invasion at the end of February.
“Nothing is impossible for God, not even stopping a war whose end is not in sight that every day puts before our eyes atrocious massacres of cruelty against defenseless civilians,” he continued.
“Let an Easter truce begin, not to reload weapons and resume fighting, to reach peace through real negotiation. What victory will it be to plant a flag on a mountain of rubble?”Francis exhorted.
For the Pope, “Christ is nailed to the cross once again in mothers who mourn the unjust death of husbands and children.”
“It is crucified in the refugees who flee from the bombs with children in their arms. It is crucified in the elderly who are abandoned to death, in the young deprived of a future, in the soldiers sent to kill their brothers”he indicated.
