This involves fully automated assessments in which taxpayers are automatically reimbursed for the wage tax they paid too much for the past year. In total, almost 80 percent of all employee assessments were carried out online via “FinanzOnline” in the past year, with 5.8 million administrative decisions. In the area of company assessments, too, the rate could be increased to almost 91 percent.
1.8 million, i.e. around a third, of all processed assessments were paid out automatically because no application was submitted.
1.5 million written applications scanned
The path to the paperless file continued. All documents arriving at the offices of the tax office are scanned in the central scanning line in Vienna and assigned to the respective electronic file. By expanding this system, 1.5 million documents were scanned and assigned in 2021, and 261,000 documents received via the e-fax system were also processed.
