Burst pipe: Residential building partially collapsed

After a water pipe burst, a residential building in Zistersdorf (Gänserndorf district) partially collapsed at the weekend. No one was injured and residents were evacuated to safety.

The municipality’s early warning system had struck in good time on Saturday morning, reported Mayor Helmut Doschek (VP). Massive water loss was reported. The supply lines were then turned off and the fire brigade closed off the section of road. The basement of the house had been flooded.

The road had to be dug up, causing the building to sink and numerous damage becoming visible.

damage assessment planned

The younger couple who lived in the building were therefore taken to safety. Just in time, because only a short time later the house partially collapsed.

All lines have now been secured. “Fortunately, other buildings should not be affected,” said Mayor Doschek, who reported that the damage assessment and inspection by an expert were planned for the beginning of the week.
