Her colleague Brigitte H., herself a paramedic, had a serious traffic accident in Sankt Georgen near Obernberg. For the 50-year-old, however, any help came too late. She succumbed to her serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
Brigitte H. was on her way to work at around 6 a.m. on her bicycle on the Wippenhamer Landstrasse in the direction of Gurten. In the village of Dietraching, the driver of a truck driving in the same direction, a 59-year-old Croatian from Vienna, may have overlooked the cyclist on the right-hand side of the road.
H. was hit by the right front side of the truck. The force of the impact threw her into an adjacent field. Despite the efforts of the rescue workers, H. died a little later.
“Known since basic training”
“I was in Obernberg today and spoke to my colleagues there. The situation was of course very stressful for them,” said Christian Dobler-Strehle, the district manager of the Red Cross in Ried. “Some have known the colleague since basic training. They were cared for by our crisis intervention team,” he says. The death of Brigitte H. leaves a large gap in the Red Cross. “I wish all relatives, friends and colleagues a lot of strength,” said Dobler-Strehle.
“The deceased was very well rooted in the place, the whole family is very active in the community,” said Obernberg Mayor Martin Bruckbauer. “People like her are very important to the place, she will be missed immensely.”
The 59-year-old Croatian, who was driving the semitrailer and was unharmed in the accident, was questioned by the police yesterday about the circumstances that led to the accident.
