Gewessler is to become Vice Party leader of the Greens

Stefan Wallner will resign from his position on April 18 at his own request, the Vice Chancellor’s office announced in a broadcast on Tuesday. Georg Günsberg, who was previously responsible for strategic projects in Kogler’s cabinet, will be his successor.

On April 30, the green federal congress will take place, Gewessler will run there as second deputy Kogerls next to deputy Stefan Kaineder, provincial councilor in Upper Austria, reports the “Kurier”.

Wallner wants to devote himself to helping Ukraine during a “cooling-off phase” in order to then reorient himself professionally outside of politics, it said. Wallner was brought into Kogler’s cabinet in May 2020. At that time he replaced Dieter Brosz. At the time, he asked the former Secretary General of Caritas, “although he left politics years ago, to come back on board to support and help steer the green government participation,” Kogler looked back on Tuesday and: “I wish Stefan all the best for the return to the NGO field that shaped him and that he helped shape over many years.”

Günsberg already has experience in Kogler’s Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport. He was “leading in designing and negotiating many important projects, such as the eco-social tax reform”. Before joining the cabinet in September 2020, Günsberg worked for 13 years as a freelance policy and strategy consultant with a focus on climate and energy policy.
