After the 1-0 win in the first leg, the Spaniards drew 1-1 from FC Bayern Munich in the return match of the quarter-finals in Munich and are in the semi-finals for the first time. The equalizer came on Tuesday in the 88th minute from a counterattack. Bayern had set the tone up to that point, but didn’t make enough of their opportunities. Marcel Sabitzer was not used.
Bayern struggled and came up with few countable chances because the Spaniards cleverly narrowed the space in front of their own goal. A header opportunity from Jamal Musiala – the best finish before the break – ended up in the arms of goalie Geronimo Rulli in the 29th minute. At Bayern, Alphonso Davies sat on the bench at the beginning, as did ÖFB legionnaire Sabitzer.
There was little offensive from the guests, just before the half-time whistle Gerard Moreno shot to the side netting. With the restart, Bayern increased the pressure, Robert Lewandowski redeemed his team with the 1-0 in the 52nd minute and thus opened the hunt for the second goal to avert the exhausting extra time. But that didn’t work. Thomas Müller (71st) headed just wide of the goal. On the other hand, Samuel Chukwueze completed a counterattack for the Spaniards perfectly in the 88th minute. With the 1:1 Bayern was eliminated.
