In the park of Katzenberg Castle, people are still digging, leveling and planting today and tomorrow. Christian Dietachmair’s team is putting the finishing touches on the area before “Dinoland” celebrates its opening on Friday. “We practically redesigned the entire park around the dinosaurs,” says Dietachmair, who runs the attraction in Kirchdorf am Inn.

Since the end of February, the 25 employees have moved around 2,000 cubic meters of earth and laid 1,000 meters of power cable and 500 meters of water pipes. “It was a creative process. We oriented ourselves to the existing landscape and slowly worked our way forward,” says Dietachmair.

From Friday, visitors can admire around 70 life-size dinosaur statues on a tour of 4000 square meters – some of them can even move thanks to animatronics. Panels provide information on Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus and cohorts. QR codes on the boards can be scanned using a smartphone, which can be used to call up an audio guide.

Additional entertainment is provided by numerous attractions along the way, such as a tree trunk balancing path, a zip line and the “Dinodrome” where children can do their rounds on dinosaur scooters. And of course there is also the opportunity to ride on the backs of dinosaurs and take photos.

In the “quarry” young archaeologists can knock ammonites out of rocks with a hammer and appropriate protective equipment. And after the research work is done, there are snacks and drinks at a kiosk and in the garden to strengthen yourself.

Dinoland is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In regular weeks it can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays, during the holidays in Bavaria or Upper Austria also from Wednesday to Friday.

Opening times in Dinoland: April 15 to October 30, during the holidays in Bavaria and Upper Austria: Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., outside the holidays: Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admission at 3 p.m.), special opening days: April 18 (Easter Monday), May 4th (St. Florian), May 26th (Ascension Day), May 27th (bridge day), June 6th (Pentecost Monday)
