A foehn wind from the southeast brought us sunny and mild weather in Upper Austria at the beginning of the week. In Tyrol, even more than 25 degrees are possible over the course of the week – meteorologists are already talking about a summer’s day.
But the closer Easter gets, the more we are coming under the influence of a low pressure area from north-eastern Europe. North wind causes the temperatures to drop noticeably. The meteorologists at the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics advise you to dress warmly when looking for eggs on Easter Sunday in the morning.
Yesterday, Tuesday, not a cloud clouded the sky in Linz, and in the perfect sunshine, a number of passers-by on the Donaulände put on their sunglasses. The maximum daily temperature climbed to 17 degrees, in Windischgarsten it was 20.4 degrees. Today it will be even warmer: after early temperatures between one and seven degrees, up to 23 degrees are expected in Upper Austria. Sometimes high cloud fields cloud the sky, and Sahara dust can also mix in, bathing the firmament in a milky light. The wind from east and south blows only weakly.
Weather change from Thursday
The wind will turn west on Maundy Thursday, predicts meteorologist Christian Resch. We can expect a mixture of sunshine and passing clouds. The lows are three to nine degrees, the highs can still rise up to 24 degrees. But on Thursday evening the weather change begins, the probability of rain increases.
Cold air from the Baltic States
On Good Friday, the influence of the low pressure increases. The meteorologist predicts rain showers throughout the state. In addition, brisk west or north-west winds could blow. “Cold air from the Baltics is coming in.” The result: The maximum daily temperatures are only 14 to 18 degrees.
The bad weather will set in from Friday to Saturday. Dense clouds are hanging over the whole country on Holy Saturday, but unlike Friday, it should remain dry in the northern half of Upper Austria. Residual showers are to be expected, especially in the Salzkammergut and in the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen region. “The snow line drops to 900 meters,” says Resch.
But in the night of Easter Sunday, the sky above Upper Austria clears up in the cold air. “In the Mühlviertel, frost is possible on Sunday morning.” The first holiday is cold, but mostly sunny and dry. Easter Monday will be similar. Rain is only in sight again on Tuesday.
