According to a report in the online edition of the “Tiroler Tageszeitung” late Wednesday evening, the 59-year-old Anton Giger from Salzburg resigned from his position in a meeting with the association’s management. According to TT, this was confirmed by association circles.
Three years ago, Giger succeeded Hans Pum, who retired, and was therefore responsible for all divisions of the association. Before that, he had been highly successful as the racing director for the alpine men for eleven years (including twelve world championship titles and six Olympic victories), before he was replaced by Mathias Berthold after the 2010 Winter Games. However, President Peter Schröcks Nadel was determined to keep Giger and created the post of head of the department for development, research and innovation for him. Giger also held these agendas to the end.
Before Giger’s departure, the ÖSV had already filled or had to fill three top positions in alpine skiing after the Olympic winter. Herbert Mandl was appointed head of alpine skiing, and a little later Patrick Riml announced his resignation as head of high-performance alpine sport. Marko Pfeifer and Thomas Trinker became new racing directors for men and women, succeeding Andreas Puelacher and Christian Mitter.
