Cool Easter: Temperatures will drop again at the weekend

The weather changes tonight, the chance of rain is increasing. At the Good Friday the influence of the low pressure is increasing. The Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) forecasts rain showers throughout Upper Austria. In addition, brisk west or north-west winds could blow. “Cold air from the Baltics comes in,” says Meteorologist Christian Resch. The maximum daily temperatures will be 16 to 20 degrees tomorrow.

From Friday on Saturday the bad weather sets in. Dense clouds are hanging over the whole country on Holy Saturday, but unlike Friday, it should remain dry in the northern half of Upper Austria. Residual showers are to be expected, especially in the Salzkammergut and in the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen region. The snow line drops to 800 meters in the southern highlands. It’s noticeably cooler, with highs between nine and 14 degrees.

But on the night of the Easter Sunday the sky above Upper Austria clears up in the cold air. “In the Mühlviertel, frost is possible on Sunday morning,” says Resch. The first holiday will be cold (maximum ten to 15 degrees), but mostly sunny and dry. It will be similar easter monday. Rain is only in sight again on Tuesday.

The prognosis for Austria:

With a cold front swinging through, the weather on Good Friday Unstable across the country with rain showers and only brief sunny spells. The focus of precipitation is initially in the north and shifts to the south-east over the course of the day, but more showers are also falling in the northern part of the Alps. Occasionally there is thunder and lightning. The wind from west to north refreshes moderately in some places. The early temperatures are three to twelve degrees, daily maximum temperatures 13 to 21 degrees.

At the holy saturday initially there will be a lot of clouds and rain showers will fall, especially north of the main Alpine ridge. The snow line in Lower Austria is around 900 meters and in Vorarlberg around 1,600 meters above sea level. In the south and in the far east, on the other hand, the dry phases predominate and there the sun is often seen in the morning. In the afternoon the clouds generally become less, they last the longest on the north side of the Alps and in the north-east. The wind close to the ground blows in the east temporarily brisk to strong from northerly directions, otherwise often only weak to moderate. The morning temperatures are only three to nine degrees, the maximum daily temperatures are eight to 17 degrees, depending on the sun.

Of the Easter Sunday has plenty of sunshine to offer in the west and south-west. However, alongside sunny spells, there will be some denser cloud further north and east. But here, too, it will remain largely dry until the evening. The wind often blows moderately, at higher altitudes and on the eastern edge of the Alps also briskly from the north to north-east. Early temperatures minus two to plus four degrees, maximum daily temperatures fresh nine to 15 degrees.

At the easter monday sunshine prevails in Vorarlberg, in Tyrol and in East Tyrol. The sun also shines at times further north and east. From the north, however, a few denser clouds will also pass through again and again during the course of the day. Apart from only a few short and, above all, infertile rain showers, it should remain largely dry until the evening. The wind will blow moderately to briskly from northerly directions. On the south side of the Alps, a north foehn blows. In the morning it is minus three to plus four degrees. The daily maximum temperatures are eleven to 16 degrees. It is warmest in western Austria.

At the Tuesday there will be some sunshine in most parts of the country alongside a few heavier clouds until the evening. A few local rain showers can only form south of the main Alpine ridge during the afternoon hours. Apart from that, it will remain largely dry. The prevailing wind direction is north to east. The wind sometimes blows moderately from here, especially in the Danube valley or in the eastern lowlands. It’s minus two to plus four degrees in the morning. The daily maximum temperatures are forecast at nine to 17 degrees.
