Gastronomic comeback in Ried: The Platzlwirt is back

At the end of 2017, a pub era ended in Ried. The “Platzl-Wirt” in Linzergasse, run by Hans and Barbara Karl, closed its doors after 35 years. The Tyrolean Bua opened in the summer of 2018. The unsuccessful time ended with the closure in February 2021. After a little over a year, life is now returning to the inn, which is owned by the Ried brewery. The rustic inn is now called the Platzlwirt again and is open five days a week, including Sundays. The restaurant with around 90 seats inside and 30 in the garden is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

“We are a real family business,” say inn manager Felix Pollhammer (21) and his parents Barbara Pollhammer and Jochen Eder. The trio from Aspach bring a lot of gastronomic experience to the new challenge. Barbara Pollhammer was employed at the St. Gilgen Yacht Club and at the Gasthof Bauböck in Andorf, among other places.

Jochen Eder gained experience as a service manager in Haslinger Hof in Bavaria and as an event manager in Hecke (Bad Füssing). The beer sommelier Felix Pollhammer completed his training as a restaurant specialist at the Revital Aspach. Due to the corona situation, a large opening was deliberately avoided. “We hope that business will get off to a good start in the coming days and weeks,” says Eder.

The kitchen uses regional and organic products and lots of organic meat. “We do everything ourselves,” says Barbara Pollhammer. “We offer down-to-earth, home-style and seasonal dishes with a penchant for innovation,” says Eder.

“Wanted to have this place”

The decision to take over the Platzlwirt was made quickly. “In February we wrote a request on Facebook with the content ‘Gastro-Pärchen sucht Lokal’ and within 24 hours we had 17 offers. One of them was the Platzlwirt,” says Jochen Eder. Barbara Pollhammer adds: “I was a regular guest at the Platzlwirt more than 20 years ago. It quickly became clear that we wanted to own and run this restaurant.” With the brewery, I have a major partner who fully supports the gastronomic concept.

“We are glad that the Platzlwirt is now opening up again and we hope that we will all have great fun with the inn,” says Christian Aigner, Managing Director of the Ried Brewery.
