At 7:45 a.m. today, a 51-year-old from Linz dialed the police emergency number because he had just observed two people breaking into mailboxes. Upon arriving at the location in southern Linz, the 51-year-old caller said he saw a 24-year-old man using a knife to open mailboxes with a 21-year-old woman standing next to him. When he asked the burglar to call the police, he suddenly turned around, holding a knife in his direction and threatening him with it. The 51-year-old was not deterred and called the police, whereupon the 24-year-old from the Linz-Land district fled with the 21-year-old from Linz.
With an immediate search and the personal description, the police managed to perceive the man at the BIM station “Neue Welt”. The fugitive was clearly recognized as the perpetrator by the 51-year-old, which is why he was arrested. When questioned, he refused to testify. In the meantime, the fugitive woman turned herself in to the central station police station. After consultation with the Linz public prosecutor’s office, the 24-year-old was taken to the Linz prison.
