Civilians killed by war in Ukraine rise to almost 2,000

Among the deceased are 507 men, 319 women, 34 girls, 55 boys, as well as 977 adults and 72 minorswhose sex is still unknown, detailed the report.

As for the injured, 304 men, 222 women, 53 girls, 55 boys, as well as 1,835 adults and 144 minors, whose sex is also unknown, are reported.

The note specifies that in the capital and the provinces of kyiv, Cherkasi, Chernigov, Kharkov, Kherson, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumi, Zaporizhia, Dnipro and Zhitomir, 1,261 civilians died, while another 1,305 were injured.

In the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in the east of the country, 703 people lost their lives and 1,308 were injured, of which 78 deaths and 288 injuries were recorded in the territory controlled by the breakaway republics, while in the areas under the control of kyiv, 625 dead and 1,020 wounded were recorded.

“The majority of recorded civilian casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact areaincluding heavy artillery and multiple rocket launcher bombardments, as well as air and missile strikes.”

The OHCHR reminds that the real figures regarding civilian casualties are very likely to be much higher, since the hostilities affect and slow down the collection and analysis of data.
