Eleven of twelve municipal kindergartens are now certified as “healthy kindergartens” by the state of Upper Austria. The twelfth on Negrellistrasse was only recently opened.
The facilities ensure plenty of exercise every day, ideally in the fresh air. In addition, each kindergarten child receives an apple or nuts and seeds as a small power snack every week.
Healthy eating is also a top priority at lunch. The central kitchen in Wimpassing, which has been awarded the state seal of quality “Healthy Kitchen”, supplies all municipal care facilities and private kindergartens with up to 1200 meals a day. One hundred percent of the staple foods come from Austria. The menu is created every two weeks, which allows more flexibility when buying seasonal and regional products. “I like the holistic approach in the healthy kindergartens, both in terms of education and health. The healthy diet, combined with lots of exercise, has a positive effect on the development of the children,” emphasizes the responsible speaker, Deputy Mayor Klaus Schinninger ( SP).
