On Friday they expressed their disappointment that masks are still compulsory in the food trade and other areas of essential trade. “It is incomprehensible that from tomorrow the mask requirement will fall in almost all areas of life – including other trade – but not in the food sector,” criticized WKÖ division chairman Christian Prauchner.
“The food trade is not a corona hotspot,” says the industry spokesman, whose point of view is supported by the private trade association. “We demand the immediate end of the obligation to wear masks for all employees in Austrian retail. Equality is finally needed for all retail employees, the continuation of this discrimination can no longer be argued epidemiologically,” emphasized Rainer Will, Managing Director of the Retail Association, in a broadcast. He started a petition for an industry-wide end to the mask requirement, and there were around a dozen supporters on Friday afternoon.
