Even after the Easter holidays, mouth and nose protection (up to the lower grades) or an FFP2 mask (upper grades, vaccinated/recovered teachers) must be worn in schools away from the classroom or study halls. Unvaccinated and unrecovered teachers will need an FFP2 mask everywhere. The FFP2 mask requirement will also remain in place at almost all universities after Easter.
The general rules do not apply to both schools and universities, but rather their own legal basis with the Covid-19 School Ordinance or the Covid-19 University Act. For the school sector, the Minister of Education issues the Corona requirements, in the university sector the respective institution does it itself.
Universities set their own rules
The Ministry of Education does not want to change the current mask rules for the school for the time being. Most of the time, the students no longer need the masks – they are no longer mandatory in class or during the break in the classroom. However, they have to be worn in the corridor or in the dining room (except when eating). The new regulations issued shortly before the holidays will only apply from April 19th anyway. In addition to the unchanged mask regulation, they also provide for a mandatory PCR test per week (previously at least two). There are antigen tests only when necessary, i.e. primarily after positive cases in the class.
It’s a bit more confusing at the universities, since each university regulates its own corona requirements. Here the Easter holidays usually end on April 24th. At some universities, the G-rules have only recently fallen, others will only waive them from next week, and at some the 3G requirement has even been extended until the end of April. However, almost everyone wants to retain the FFP2 mask requirement, at least for the time being – often throughout the building, at some institutions only in the lecture hall/laboratory or during examinations. The Graz University of Music has issued the requirement that the mask is mandatory in all rooms as soon as a person present requests it. The Technical University (TU) Graz, on the other hand, has announced that it will remove all corona restrictions, including the obligation to wear masks, from April 25.
