As before, most new infections were registered in Lower Austria with 1,661, just ahead of Vienna with 1,642. All other federal states were in the three-digit range: 875 new infections were reported in Upper Austria, 420 in Styria, 410 in Carinthia, 374 in Vorarlberg, 300 in Salzburg, 280 in Burgenland and 265 in Tyrol.
Eleven people have died from or with Covid-19 since yesterday. That was below the seven-day average of 27 per day. Since it began, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 16,431 lives in Austria. This means that 183 people per 100,000 inhabitants died in connection with a coronavirus infection.
The number of hospital patients with Covid 19 disease has increased slightly compared to Easter Sunday. 13 more patients than yesterday – a total of 1,898 – were in the hospital. Of them, 154 were cared for in intensive care units, seven fewer than on Easter Sunday and 54 fewer than a week ago.
As always, the number of tests registered was relatively low at weekends: In the past 24 hours, 79,909 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered, of which 74,020 were meaningful PCR tests. This means that 233,570,197 corona tests have been carried out since the beginning of the pandemic. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 8.4 percent, which was above last week’s average of 6.1 percent positive tests.
Current vaccination numbers were not published on the Easter weekend. Maintenance work was given as the reason for this.
