120 years of Obertraun local music band

A good dozen music-loving men founded a brass band with the catchy name “Alpenlust” 120 years ago. The rehearsals were carried out at the “Wirt” (Höllwirt) before the first public appearance took place at Pentecost 1902! Today, the Obertraun local music band – as it is now called – has its own musicians’ home, which they moved into in 1999.

A constant up and down has accompanied the local music since its inception. While there were only 16 members in the mid-1970s, the association now has 42 active musicians. Thus, Kapellmeister Josef Pühringer – he has been the musical director since 2002 – and chairman Peter Perstl – responsible for organizational matters since 1999 – have a good foundation at their disposal. Youth work has been particularly important for many years. But also latecomers and returnees are always welcome in the circle of Obertraun local music.

This year’s jubilee round begins on Saturday at 8 p.m. with a festive concert in the federal sports and leisure center. The band offers a cross-section of all layers of brass band music: traditional concert pieces such as the concert waltz “Traumideale” or the “Weinkeller Polka” are on the program as well as modern pieces for brass bands.

In addition to the rehearsals for the festival concert, the musicians are currently also in front of the “lens”. Because in time for the big music festival in August, a new “musicians’ calendar” should be ready and presented. Like ten years ago, the photos were taken by Manfred Schöpf.
