Parents broke through the ice in the Pragser Wildsee with their baby

According to a media report, the baby’s parents were reported to the judiciary after they broke into the frozen lake with the child on Easter Monday. The fire brigade had to be called out several times over the weekend because 14 tourists broke through the thin ice on the Pragser Wildsee. A video showed how the emergency services pulled several people out of the lake northeast of Bolzano by helicopter.

The few-month-old baby was flown to a clinic in Innsbruck, Austria, in critical condition, the reports said. On Monday evening, the doctors gave the all-clear that the child was no longer in danger.

The tourists are likely to have ignored the warnings on the shore. The Pragser Wildsee lies picturesquely at almost 1,500 meters between towering mountains of the Dolomites. The place is known to many because some episodes of the Italian TV series “Un passo dal cielo” (The Mountain Police – Very Close to Heaven) starring Terence Hill were filmed there.

“It’s absurd”

“They come by the thousands on the weekends and go up to 100 meters from the shore,” the “Corriere della Sera” (Tuesday) quoted the mayor of Prague, Friedrich Mittermair. “I say that’s absurd, I don’t know what else can be done to prevent access.”
