The price of gas in Europe fell to the lowest since the beginning of the war

According to the Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri PeskovEurope still has time to start paying with currency, since the measure would take effect “sometime in May”. The statements brought calm because, previously, Russia had threatened to implement this initiative from April.

Asiafor its part, helped stabilize prices due to the confinements arranged in China following a new explosion of Covid-19 cases. This is the worst outbreak since Wuhan, with a scenario of more than 20,000 cases per day and two weeks of strict isolation.

The EU countries have shown their intention to reduce energy dependence on Russia and are searching for alternative sources with other importing countries such as the United States, Qatar or Algeria. Even so, they are unable to do so immediately due to a possible aggravation in energy costs which, together with food, fueled record inflation in the region.

“We believe that importing gas from the Black Sea is better than buying it from Putin”declared, in this context, Mette Fredriksen, Prime Minister of Denmark, which aims to increase gas production to help Europe reduce its imports with Russia. It is in this context that the administrative processes will be accelerated and an increase in production in the North Sea will be negotiated with the energy companies to maintain, at the same time, the promises to ban gas and oil in 2050 and to quadruple production of solar and wind sources by 2030.

Denmark is the eighth gas producer in the EU, although its supply is expected to increase by 247% by 2025 (compared to 2021). In this way, the objective is to exceed domestic needs from next year, after completing the reconditioning works in Tyra, the largest gas condensate field in the country.
