The German tobogganing legend Georg Hackl changes as supervisor to the Austrian Toboggan Association. This was confirmed by the three-time Olympic champion of the Munich Merkur/tz media group on Tuesday. The newspapers “Österreich” and “Die Welt” had previously reported on it. The ÖRV confirmed talks, but did not want to confirm the prominent access before a media event on Thursday.
The 55-year-old Hackl was a coach in the German association for many years. Most recently, he was involved as a technical coach in the gold coup at the Olympic Games in Beijing, when the Germans won all four competitions and won silver twice.
“Together with my athletes we rocked the toboggan world, but now it’s time to go,” said Hackl. “The offer was lucrative for me.” Hackl, who was called “Schorsch”, was “very happy” that Prock of all people approached him with it. The German association confirmed the departure. “I spoke to him for a long time, but the offer was too attractive for him,” said sports director Thomas Schwab.
Hackl won three Olympic golds (1992, 1994 and 1998) and two silver medals and was three times world champion in singles. He leaves the German association with an excellent slander. “Of course, after all the years together, the fact that Schorsch is leaving us is extremely painful,” said Felix Loch, himself a three-time Olympic champion. “He knows that our doors are open for him and that there is always a place for him among our young athletes,” said Schwab.
