Successful coaching debut by Liu Jia

The red-white-red table tennis aces shone at the 21st Raiffeisen Youth Championships in Linz’s TipsArena in a showdown against strong international competition. The six-time Olympic participant and ex-European champion Liu Jia (Linz AG Froschberg) had a tailor-made coaching debut as head of the “Girls Winning Project”. Under the direction of the 40-year-old, Mariia Lytvyn and Nina Skerbinz won team gold in the U13 competition.

In the same age group, Liu Jia’s national team colleague Liu Yuan (Uniqa Biesenfeld) led the boys Adrian Kastl (Union Pregarten) and Tobias Tischberger (SPG muki Ebensee) to the silver medal. The latter, like Celine Panholzer (U15/Union Ried in der Riedmark) and Anastasiya Radzionava (U19/LZ Linz-Froschberg), won individual bronze. The Chinese Liu Zhendong, who was taken under his wing by Froschberg manager Günther Renner, crowned his performance with gold in the U19 category.

Michelle Kases (Union Vorchdorf) won silver (U17).
