Chancellery demands money from Karmasin

As the ORF reported online on Tuesday evening, the Chancellery has commissioned the Finanzprokuratur to claim outstanding claims. Karmasin had transferred around 62,000 euros, but is said to have received more than 74,000 euros in continued payment.

At the beginning of March it became known that Karmasin had applied for continued salary payment after the end of her term of office, although she had other income. She herself then arranged for a refund because the “optics weren’t good”. Politicians who leave office and are not entitled to continue gainful employment will continue to receive 75 percent of their monthly salary for a maximum of six months upon request. Karmasin is said to have received four monthly salaries.

“The BKA has commissioned the Finanzprokuratur to pursue open claims,” said ORF.at in a statement from the Chancellery. Nothing more can be said at the moment. The Chancellery was not available for the APA.

Since Karmasin only repaid the money as a result of a research request, the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Economic and Corruption (WKStA) does not assume that “active remorse” will take effect in this case. According to ORF.at, the WKStA recorded in its files that it was “completely clear” that there would be investigations. Karmasin’s lawyer did not want to answer questions about continued payment to the ORF. He was not available for the APA on Tuesday evening.
