The number of petrol stations in Austria has recently increased slightly: at the end of 2021 there were 2748 publicly accessible petrol stations. A year earlier it was 2733. The Association of the Mineral Oil Industry (FVMI) called these numbers yesterday, Monday.
1,322 gas stations are managed by the major corporate brands BP, Eni, Jet, OMV and Shell: Their number has fallen slightly compared to the previous year. The number of petrol stations operated by other providers has increased: 1,426 are operated by smaller providers (Turmöl, Genol, Avia, A1). There are also a few agricultural gas stations. The number of charging stations at petrol stations has increased only slightly, from 71 to 84.
133 times there is the possibility to fill up with CNG (natural gas). Autogas (LPG) is available at 40 petrol stations. The tank can also be filled with hydrogen at five OMV filling stations. “Our member companies have long since embarked on the path to a climate-neutral future,” said FVMI Managing Director Hedwig Doloszeski: “We are working on continuously expanding the range and making a contribution to the mobility revolution.
The market leader in Austria is Eni (321 petrol stations), followed by Shell (263), BP (227), OMV (213), Jet (161) and Avanti (137). Of these petrol stations, 1127 have a shop and 840 have a bistro.
409 gas stations of the big brands are open around the clock. A total of 869 of the domestic petrol stations offer 24-hour supply.
