An Austrian victory and more than 15,000 spectators made last year’s ADAC 3-City Rally in Bavaria and the Mühlviertel a great success. A 3-country rally in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic is planned for 2022. The “58th Knaus Tabbert 3-City Rally” will take place from October 13th to 15th. But according to a report by the Passauer Neue Presse (PNP), there is resistance to the motorsport spectacle in some communities. According to PNP, however, the ADAC has already won the first stage on the Bavarian side: the municipal council in Breitenberg decided with nine to five votes that the special stages can take place in Breitenberg.
Rally sport not up to date
In Wegscheid – directly on the state border – the automobile club got a rejection. The reasoning of the Wegscheider market council: The rally does not fit into the time. Mainly because of the high fuel prices. In addition, the roads around Wildenranna do not want to be closed for a whole Saturday in October. That would hinder farmers and foresters too much. But according to media reports, there is also resistance to motorsport in Hauzenberg. Mayor Gudrun Donaubauer rejected a motorsport event in the city area at all. The organizers are now hoping for a positive decision in the community of Sonnen. “We will discuss the ADAC application in the municipal council at the next meeting on April 26th and then come to a decision,” Mayor Klaus Weidinger is quoted as saying. Of course, the residents should also be questioned beforehand. In Sonnen, the route would be around 11.5 kilometers long. If the citizens did not object, the mayor could also imagine such an event in Sonnen.
Coordination with residents
With that he runs into open doors with the spokesman for the rally, Stefan Dorner: “At the ADAC we know, of course, that motorsport is fundamentally polarizing,” the spokesman told the Bavarian media. It is important to the motorists’ club that motorsport is not discriminated against. It is still justified, even in times of high fuel prices. In addition, the rally is prepared in good cooperation with the citizens. There are discussions with each resident and appropriate meetings where concerns can be raised.
Commitments for the Mühlviertel
The rally teams complete a total of six special stages in the border triangle of Bavaria, Austria and the Czech Republic – two per country. “Because everything is driven twice, this results in around 168 kilometers on the special stage on both days,” explains Stefan Dorner. For the Mühlviertel with Peilstein and Julbach and the Czech Bohemian Forest with Sumavske Hostice and Radhostice, the ADAC says it already has firm commitments.
