As the Ministry of Defense informed, the flights are planned from next Monday, April 25th, until Friday, May 6th. On weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., training takes place almost throughout Germany – including in Upper Austria. The metropolitan areas and the federal states of Tyrol and Vorarlberg are not affected. “In order to keep the noise level as low as possible, we fly at an altitude of over 12,500 meters,” the ministry said.
The army pilots practice interception maneuvers at a speed of 1200 km/h. If a Eurofighter approaches this speed, shock waves occur on the aircraft. This can be heard on the ground as a bang. Its volume depends, among other things, on flight altitude, terrain structure and weather conditions. The Ministry determines the exact flight areas together with civil air traffic control.
