Hitler’s birthplace: conversion costs twice as much as planned

Instead of the previously estimated five million euros, eleven million euros are expected, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed a report by ORF Radio Oberösterreich on Thursday. The start of construction should also be delayed. The conversion is not scheduled to begin until 2023 and last until 2025. Originally, the plan was to have it completed by 2022.

New Headquarters for Police Inspectorate

Hitler’s birthplace fell to the Ministry of the Interior in the course of an expropriation after they could not come to an agreement with the long-standing owner of the property. After some legal tug-of-war, the woman had to be paid a good 800,000 euros, the conversion according to the draft by the Vorarlberg architects Marte.Marte should cost another five million euros and be completed towards the end of 2022, according to the original plan. Then the police should move into the house with the district police command and a police inspection.

Several years delay

The Ministry of the Interior says that construction is not expected to begin until 2023. The plan remains that the police should move in, but probably not until 2025. The reason for the delay is the necessary official procedures, the necessary agreement with neighbors and the current tense situation in the construction sector.

The main reason given for the sharp increase in costs was the development of construction prices. Overall, however, the costs and schedule are only a calculation that is currently being assumed due to current developments, the ministry emphasizes.
