A dog previously reported as having escaped was tied up in Altlengbach (district of St. Pölten) and found dead in a well about seven meters deep. According to the police, the animal’s front and rear legs and snout were tied together with a package cord and adhesive tape. The Executive is asking for relevant information.
The owner of the nine-year-old border collie mix reported on Tuesday evening that he missed the four-legged friend. The dog had jumped over a fence and run away.
As part of the search, the animal owner opened the well shaft, which was closed with a concrete cover, in the garden of his own, unfenced-off property on Thursday afternoon. There he discovered the dead dog, which was recovered by the local fire department. Information on obvious animal cruelty is received from the Altlengbach Police Inspectorate on 059 133-3161.
In a reaction to the incident on Friday, the organization Pfotenhilfe said that “emotions among supporters” would run high. A donor got in touch and provided 5,000 euros “for the decisive clue that led to the conviction of the perpetrator”.
