A story with many chapters, unforeseeable twists and even dark phases has reached its climax for the time being: with the ground-breaking ceremony in Rohrbach-Berg, construction work for the new indoor swimming pool in the district of Rohrbach began. With that, the indoor pool working group leader, Rohrbach-Berg’s mayor Andreas Lindorfer, took a heavy load off his shoulders. After all, the project was on the razor’s edge several times, and his temples, as he announced at the groundbreaking ceremony, had become a shade grayer.
No wonder, since all 37 municipalities in the Rohrbach district had to be brought on board to finance the project. Since the closure of the old Haslach indoor pool became foreseeable in 2008, plans for a new building have been floating around in the district. The state’s 2015 swimming pool study finally confirmed the need for a pool. The district town quickly emerged as the best, because most central, location – not to the delight of all mayors. But thanks to tireless efforts and a political alliance, it was only a few days ago that the financing was secured – only the authorship of the idea is still not entirely unanimous. Whether the ground-breaking ceremony has now been held, this question also seems irrelevant – as is well known, success has many parents anyway.
The unraveling of the financing package became necessary due to the increased construction costs, which will of course also be reflected in the contributions from the district municipalities. With a little grumbling, however, all the communities accepted the new financial plan, especially since it was possible to negotiate a fixed price with the general contractor.
decision of the municipal council
Only a few hours before the municipal council meeting on Wednesday in Rohrbach-Berg did the state finally approve the financing plan and the construction sum of 15,154,000 euros. At this meeting, the Berndorf company was also commissioned as general contractor. The building is being built according to the plans of the Pohl architects’ office, which had already drawn up the preliminary project together with Oberer Consulting. It is planned to start the construction work immediately and put the pool into operation in December 2023.
Celebratory groundbreaking
On their own, none of the 37 Rohrbach municipalities could have financed a project of this size in an economically justifiable manner. But together and with the support of the state of Upper Austria, the new district indoor pool at the Rohrbach-Berg site is now becoming a reality.
State Councilor Michaela Langer-Weninger also traveled to Rohrbach-Berg for the ground-breaking ceremony: “If, like here in the Rohrbach district, all the communities pull together, great things are possible for the region and its citizens. It is to be hoped that many districts and regions follow this example and work together on the quality of life in rural areas.” She is primarily addressing the issue of joint financing.
After all, these support all communities, while the local municipality of Rohrbach-Berg has agreed to finance the disposal during ongoing operation of the plant.
“Living space becomes more attractive”
“We can only do it together”, Andreas Lindorfer is also convinced with regard to the financing of infrastructure in rural areas. “Due to the current construction and the soon opening of the district indoor pool, our city, but also the entire district with its 37 communities, will experience an upgrade. The anticipation of the small and large Rohrbacher for the new pool is already great. I am convinced that Indoor swimming pool will contribute significantly to making life in the Upper Mühlviertel even more attractive.”
