On Thursday evening, the handcuffs clicked for a repeat offender from the Linz-Land district. The 28-year-old was caught by residents around 9 p.m. in an apartment building in Asten when he tried to gain access to the underground car park of the house with a key that he had previously stolen during a burglary. The witnesses were able to prevent his escape, three of them were injured.
Police eventually arrested the man. He was able to prove six burglaries in cars and at least three other thefts from unlocked cars. When he was questioned, he made a full confession.
It also emerged that earlier this year he punctured the tires on his ex-wife’s car and smashed the side mirror with a baseball bat. In March, he then set the vehicle on fire. The 28-year-old was taken to the Garsten prison by order of the Steyr public prosecutor, the police said on Friday evening.
