His consideration for animals had far-reaching consequences for a 24-year-old driver on Friday: because a family of ducks wanted to cross the Daxberg-Landesstraße in front of him, the young man initiated an emergency stop in the Unterfreunddorf district. Although he was able to save the majority of the chicks from death – two were run over anyway – a following car driver did not manage to stop in time.
The 70-year-old from the Wels-Land district crashed his car into the rear of the man in front. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Wels Hospital. The 24-year-old suffered injuries of an unspecified degree and went to medical treatment on his own, the police said on Friday evening.
