Police officers prevented baby from cardiac arrest

This meant that a defibrillator was not needed. The little boy was hospitalized for several days. The infant and his family were reunited with the three officers on Saturday, police said.

The emergency happened on March 25 in the late evening hours on Elisenstraße in Liesing. When the police officers from the Lehmangasse inspection department arrived, the baby was convulsing and finding it difficult to breathe. The infant was placed prone on a police officer’s forearm to check the heartbeat. It got slower and slower and suddenly stopped. Through “a controlled pain stimulus” the boy cried out and began to breathe normally again. To relieve the pressure on the airway, he was left in a prone position “in the forearm position,” the report said, until paramedics arrived.

The officials were very happy to see them again. They gave the boy, whose family thanked him for his service, a police teddy bear.
