Linzer Maibaum comes from Eferding

This year a large maypole from Eferding will decorate Linz’s main square. On Saturday the tree will be transported by the Schaunburgteufels to the Volksgarten in Linz. There he is being prepared for the pageant, which will take the country road to the main square from 3 p.m. Led by the Musikverein Eferding, he is accompanied by the Goldhaubenfrauen, the Eferdinger jugglers and the Schaunburgteufeln Krampus group. From 4 p.m., the rural youth will set up the maypole by hand.

Strictly guarded

In the night to Sunday, the people of Eferding want to guard it closely, after all the Linz maypole is in great demand among thieves. In the previous year, the Linz maypole was not guarded until 6 a.m. due to the curfew, the maypole thieves – a group from Neufelden – nevertheless struck in a corona-compliant manner and stole the tree after 6 a.m. Passers-by fooled the boys into believing that there had been a storm warning.

A maypole will also traditionally decorate the town square in Eferding on May 1st. It will be set up again by employees of the Glatzhofer company, who even turn out on a public holiday for this purpose. The tree is decorated and trimmed under the supervision of Renate Wiesinger. Incidentally, both trees are donated by the Holzinger family from Zehetnergut in Alkoven. Since the fire brigade’s Floriani celebrations are also taking place this year on May 1st, the maypole will move into the town square accompanied by the fire brigades.

The Eferdinger Krampus tour Schaunburgteufeln organizes a festival with music from 10 a.m., and of course the physical well-being is also taken care of. In order to be independent of the weather, a marquee will be set up.
