Ukrainian Easter celebrations in Wilhering became a sign of peace

“It was beautiful, celebratory and the work was worth it” – with these words Margit Stadler-Schauer summed up yesterday the special festival in Wilhering, which was held on her initiative. The Ukrainian Easter festival with the search for Easter nests in the monastery park and Easter Orthodox vespers in the monastery church with Abbot Reinhold Dessl and the Ukrainian priest Juriy Strugov brought more than 200 people together and became the sign of peace that the initiators had hoped for.

The fair was an emotional highlight, the search for the 150 hidden Easter nests in the monastery park for the Austrian and Ukrainian children was great. “It was a complete success,” the idea generator was more than satisfied with the sign of great willingness to help and she was pleased that the farmers from the area, who contributed sweet dishes to the festival, were also represented in large numbers in the church at Vespers .

Something else was already celebrated in Wilhering on Friday: the largest class reunion in the history of the Stiftsgymnasium as part of the 125th school anniversary. A little more than 320 graduates accepted the invitation and not only exchanged lively memories and anecdotes from their school days, but also discussed the future of education. The initiators were Maria Katharina Moser, Director of Diakonie Österreichs, Sparkasse Board Chair Stefanie Christina Huber and Christoph Keplinger, Director at the Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart, three graduates of the Stiftsgymnasium.
