Joe Biden congratulated Emmanuel Macron on his re-election and said he will cooperate to defend democracy

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also congratulated Macron on Twitter, where he said he hopes to “continue close cooperation with France on global challenges” that will consolidate a “long and lasting alliance and friendship” between the two countries.

After concluding the counting of the votes, the outgoing president, Emmanuel Macron, obtained 18.7 million votes, 58.55% of those cast, while the far-right Marine Le Pen obtained 13.3 million French, a percentage of the 41.45% of the votes.

Abstention marked the highest level for a second round since 1969, with 28.01%.

This was reported today by the French Ministry of the Interior after knowing the final results of the second round of the presidential elections.
