This success story was looked back on in detail at the club’s 50th anniversary celebrations in Perger’s “Die Turnhalle” event center on Saturday.
Among the 150 guests, Club President Alfred Hrusca was able to welcome numerous high-ranking Lions representatives such as Past District Governor Willi Himmel from Graz as well as Mayor Toni Froschauer and Perg District Governor Werner Kreisl. In the interviews conducted by moderator Elisabeth Keplinger-Radler, it came out time and again that the Lions are primarily concerned with providing quick, personal and unbureaucratic help for people in need. Hrusca: “Lions need hands-on people; no needle carriers. We want to keep it that way in the future. Especially since there is no shortage of situations in which our help is needed.” Many clubs have recently demonstrated this during the war in Ukraine.
On the other hand, support that the jubilant club launched on the occasion of the festive evening is concentrated entirely on the Perg region: A fund endowed with 15,000 euros is being set up for the elementary schools in the district to ensure that children from financially disadvantaged families can also take part in school events can participate. Gerhard Huber from the Mühlviertel Education Directorate received this Lions donation on behalf of the elementary schools.
An anniversary celebration would not be complete without honoring deserving club members. Alfred Brandner, Ernst Grüll and Gerhard Strasser received a “President Appreciation Award”. Josef Brabenetz, Erwin Gattringer, Karl Grasserbauer, Lothar Grubich, Heinrich Hochstöger and Anton Karner received the “Melvin Jones Fellowship Award”. Willi Himmel went one step further up the stage of possible Lions awards with two honors for Alfred Hrusca and the long-time club treasurer Helmut Bitzan: They received a “Progressive Melvin Jones Award”.
