“I enjoy working with the team here atVorwarts. We have developed excellently,” says Gerhard “Joel” Dombaxi. The 25-year-old left-back only provided the proof on Friday against FAC, who were previously undefeated in the spring: the favorites couldn’t get past him, and he kept changing himself The Red-Whites fans were just as enthusiastic about his performance as they were about SKV’s 1-0 win.
“I think we’ll play a big role in the second division next year,” says Dombaxi, “I’m happy to be a part of that. That’s why I’m happy that I’m staying for another year.” Variable as a left-back or in left midfield deployable player, who moved from Blau-Weiss Linz to Steyr a year ago, has now extended his contract with the red-whites by another year until summer 2023. During the first win under coach Daniel Madlener, he was even on the field as a striker and promptly contributed two goals to the 3:1 victory against Kapfenberg.
The German has already played a total of 2,069 minutes this season for Vorwarts. On Instagram, he was voted the player of the first half of the season by SKV fans. “Joel has quickly become a pillar of our team and we still see potential in him. We are pleased that we will continue to work together on our goals in the coming season,” says Jürgen Tröscher, sporting director of the Steyrer.
“Jürgen and the trainers placed their full trust in me from day one. I think I paid them back with my performances,” says the 25-year-old, “after my injury last season I’ve found my old strength again. Another year at Vorwarts will do me good personally.”
After the red-whites extended the contract with midfielder Alem Pasic by two years just a week ago, Dombaxi has now added another essential building block for a successful upcoming season.
