Two children who are being treated in the St. Anna Children’s Hospital in Vienna are affected, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday at the APA request. Further details are being clarified and have not been announced for the time being. According to reports, both children are not in critical condition, the APA learned.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of April 21, at least 169 children had contracted hepatitis of unknown cause in a dozen western countries. Two-thirds of liver infections have been reported in the UK since early April. The rest are spread over several European countries from Norway to Romania and the USA. Doctors in Austria were therefore proactively provided with information last week and should report suspected cases, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday.
