“Reward for hard work!

“You’re incredibly happy when your effort is rewarded,” says Rachinger: “For a young team like us, that’s great confirmation and motivation. You can see that all the hard work, all the overtime, is rewarded and the guests appreciate what we celebrate.”

Switching to the smaller restaurant would have allowed us to “sharpen and show what we’ve got.” Lukas Nagl from the Bootshaus restaurant in Traunkirchen was also awarded four forks, he was able to repeat his 96 points from last year with fine fish dishes and cook again with creative use of vegetables.

Lukas Kienbauer has moved up to third place with Lukas in Schärding and 95 points. Max Schellerer, who succeeded Rainer Stranzinger in the Tanglberg in Vorchdorf, also scored 95 points. The Grabmer family was rated 94 points in the “Waldschänke” in Grieskirchen and Erich Lukas with the “Verdi” in Linz.

Two more awards also go to Upper Austria – wine expert and “Wein und Co” managing director Willi Klinger from Gaspoltshofen is honored for his life’s work, Schauflinger’s Gasthaus-Theuerwang in Vorchdorf is honored as the best country inn. Gastronomy has been practiced within the historic walls of the former Theuerwang Castle since 1640. The Schauflinger family took over in 1900 and keeps the tradition alive. “We still cook on an old wood stove, keep it family-like, and we’re only open on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays,” says Lisa Schauflinger. On the menu you will find classics such as baked sweetbreads, boiled beef, veal brains with eggs or caraway bacon. The attached grocery store is also very well received by the guests.

Top marks for the Steirereck

Birgit and Heinz Reitbauer voted the “Steirereck” in Vienna’s Stadtpark the most outstanding restaurant in Austria – 100 out of 100 points speak for themselves. “Steirereck” sommelier René applied for was honored as sommelier of the year, Bernd Schlacher from “Motto” in Vienna can look forward to the title restaurateur of the year.

The top mark of four forks was awarded to 45 companies throughout Austria. A further 184 restaurants were each awarded three forks. After two years in which no devaluations were made due to the pandemic, there are now 419 climbers compared to 117 relegations.
