It will not be a summer construction site, but a pre-holiday campaign. The schedule for the renewal of the most heavily used track sections of all four tram lines and the Pöstlingbergbahn is now available. Accordingly, the main work will take place on the long or extended weekends (Ascension Day, Pentecost, Corpus Christi). The track replacement and restoration of the surface should be completed before the start of the holidays.
As previously reported, there is no getting around the renewal of the tracks. They are more than 30 years old and have reached the technical end of their lives. The entire “exchange section” is 540 meters long, 340 meters of which relate to the bridge.
“Work in minimum time”
In order to disrupt road users and residents as little as possible, the work is said to be “carried out in the minimum possible time”. The main work was shifted to the less busy weekends around the May and June bank holidays to minimize the impact. By the way: The preparatory work will start on May 2nd, like the follow-up work, it will take place as far as possible during ongoing operations.
Road users and users of public transport have to be prepared for disruptions or daily rail replacement services.
A closure of the Nibelungenbrücke is not planned, the existing lane from Klosterstraße via the main square to the Nibelungenbrücke will remain free for individual traffic or it will run alongside the “construction lane”. Two lanes will be available on the bridge in each direction of travel, and according to Linz AG there will be no work during peak traffic times.
The main works to note:
- Main Square – May 25, 8 p.m. to May 30, 4 a.m
- Nibelungen Bridge, north side: June 3, 8 p.m. to June 7, 4 a.m
- Nibelungen Bridge, south side: June 15, 8 p.m. to June 20, 4 a.m
