This year’s state competition of Upper Austria’s butcher apprentices was firmly in Mühlviertel hands. Florian Pilshofer from Münzbach (apprenticeship company Leopold Pilshofer, Münzbach) proved to be the best young butcher in our state. He won the competition ahead of Florian Kaissl from Engerwitzdorf (teaching company Wegschaider, Steyregg). Thomas Hammer from Luftenberg (apprenticeship company Karl Heinz Fürst, Pregarten) also took third place on the podium, a young man from the Mühlviertel.
The participants in the state apprenticeship competition had to complete a whole range of tasks under time pressure. Among other things, they had to cut up meat roughly and finely, present a pork shoulder ready for sale, produce jelly and frankfurters, produce ready-to-cook products and a cold cut, ham, bacon and roast platter and present them accordingly. Fast, precise and clean work was required.
State Guild Master Willibald Mandl was impressed by the skills of the young talents in the food industry: “We are proud of our apprentices. They did a great job and showed their skills. They are our specialists of tomorrow and ensure that we can continue to enjoy honestly handcrafted, regional food specialties in the future.” WKOÖ Vice President and Deputy State Guild Master Leo Jindrak and Siegfried Doppler from the Upper Austria Education Directorate also congratulated the winners.
