60 cyclists rolled through Vöcklabruck to ensure safe traffic routes

Despite the rain, around 60 cyclists took part in the “Flower Ride” last Friday, to which the newly founded Radlobby Vöcklabruck had invited. “We want to set an example for more safety and space for cycling and draw attention to weaker members of the road,” said spokesman Alexander Six.

Accompanied by a police car, the demonstration train set off from the OKH premises and, after a short lap, rolled onto the flower market on the town square. Among the bikes decorated with flowers were many children’s bikes.

“Lubricant” for cyclists

The bike lobby only presented itself to the municipal council in March. The group currently consists of eleven members and sees itself as a contact for cyclists in the city. “We want broad support from the municipal council,” said Six at the public question hour. The bike lobby is a “lubricant” so that bike mobility in Vöcklabruck can get going again. “You will find open ears with us,” assured Mayor Peter Schobesberger (SP), himself an inveterate cyclist. Active mobility will also play an important role in the city’s future traffic concept, the mayor assured.

The Radlobby Vöcklabruck will soon offer interested cyclists opportunities to take part again: On May 14th, the Kidical Mass, a joint cycle tour for children, will take place throughout Austria and also in Vöcklabruck; on May 20th the first edition of Velobruck, the bike café and new meeting place for bike culture in the open culture house, starts.
