New chairman of the mountain rescue service in Gmunden

After 29 years at the head of the mountain rescue center in Gmunden, Bernhard Ebner, a veteran of mountain rescue, handed over responsibility to younger hands. The 47 members of the local office unanimously elected Stefan Oberkalmsteiner as the new local manager.

Ebner actually wanted to stop last year. However, the Corona measures made an annual general meeting not possible. The man from Gmunden leaves big footsteps: his era saw the construction of a new operations center in Traunsteinstraße, the purchase of an emergency vehicle, the rapid modernization of equipment, ongoing rejuvenation of the team through new hires, good cooperation with all blue light organizations as well as with the army and police , authorities and city politics. Bringing the mountain rescue service, whose work usually goes unnoticed by the public, into the public eye was a central concern of his management work, according to the outgoing chairman.

His successor, Stefan Oberkalmsteiner, heads the timber construction department at Stern und Hafferl Bau with 35 employees and lives in Ohlsdorf. He has been a member of the mountain rescue service for 20 years and heads one of the most demanded local offices in the country (Traunstein). In the past year, the mountain rescuers had to move out 55 times, in two cases there were fatal falls.
