More safety through driver assistance systems

Because from July 6th, newly typed vehicles in the EU must be equipped with a range of new technical aids for the driver. These include, for example, an automatic emergency brake assistant or a reversing assistant.

These technical innovations are intended to further improve road safety. According to KFV and AUVA, around 90 percent of accidents in Austria are due to human error. Up to 50 percent of car accidents could be prevented or turned out less badly with assistance systems.

Raising awareness among car drivers is now important, says State Councilor for Infrastructure Günther Steinkellner (FP): “A dialogue is important for vehicle drivers in order to inform them about how the assistance systems work in practice. Strengths and weaknesses can be understood in this way.”
