The return of the Urfahran market

The return of the Urfahran market

280 exhibitors, showmen and restaurants will transform the area on the Danube from April 30th to May 8th into the usual fairground festival zone. The broad mix of sectors could be maintained and is balanced, as Anke Merkl, head of the tourism and markets department, said.

The compulsory Corona break did not result in any noticeable change in the composition of the market feeders. So there will be many familiar faces again, but also some new ones. An example: The Hujber family is at the fair in Linz for the first time and with the “Disco Loco” ride they also have the attraction in the amusement park to offer.

The program for the nine market days has familiar features. The opening with beer tapping and the free rides on all rides on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. are just as new as the music afternoon (May 1), the senior citizens’ afternoon (May 3), the family day (May 4) or the Day of Brass Music (May 8).

Premiere for Florianitag

But there are also innovations. May 4th is Florianitag, school-free and the ideal occasion for the state fire brigade association to offer a lot of program from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A fire engine will be available to try out on the lawn in front of the Ars Electronica Center.

What is also new is that this year there will only be one firework display. It is planned for Saturday, if the weather is bad, the alternative date is a week later, again on Saturday. The otherwise traditional Thursday fireworks are no longer there. For ecological reasons, it was decided to only offer a large fireworks display, said Merkl.

The situation in Ukraine will also be visible at the fair. On May 4th at 7 p.m. there will be a charity concert with tr&b, Cook And The Gang and the Hot Pants Road Club in the marquee.

If everything goes according to plan, or rather, as it was before Corona, and the weather keeps up with the season, the organizers expect almost half a million visitors again. “But it will also be a surprise for all of us how many people will come in the end,” said Merkl.
