Boric’s government will sue truckers for roadblocks

In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior has indicated that “due to the interruption of free traffic on the highways at the hands of some groups of truckers in different parts of the country and after intense negotiations to lift this stoppage on the roads, the Ministry of the Interior and Security has decided to sue those who are responsible for these crimes committed against public order.

Although after the negotiations most of the mobilized truckers have withdrawn, in the last hours there have been cuts in the province of Loa, Antofagasta Region, and in the province of Curicó, Maule Region.

“We were willing to dialogue and seek solutions. Others preferred intransigence. This paralysis prevents free movement, supply and access to basic services for millions of people, and our first responsibility as a Government is with the well-being of the citizens of our country. country,” the Ministry said in a statement.

However, a truck driver was once again shot when he was covering the route between Carahue and Tirúa, in southern Chile, while a vehicle was set on fire by a group of hooded men.

Carbineros has reported that this is a new attack against truck drivers – who demand greater protection – in the region of Araucania and has pointed out that the attacked trucks were part of a convoy intercepted by armed men.

“Unknown subjects proceed to burn a truck at kilometer 22 of Route S-138 (which connects the Tranapuente sector, in Carahue, with Tirúa) to later attack a driver of a truck who was traveling to the commune of Carahue”, explained Javier Sepúlveda, commissioner of Nueva Imperial.

On Tuesday, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, warned the transportation groups that block the routes in protest against the fuel price that, if the roadblocks do not cease, “the law will prevail”.

“It is not acceptable and it is our duty as a government, and my duty as President of the Republic, to guarantee free transit through our country,” he asserted.

Groups of truckers have launched to block some highways in Chile also to demand greater security after the acts of violence recorded in the south of the country, where this weekend one person died and two others were injured.

“Since we took office, we have carried out a permanent dialogue with the main groups of truckers in Chile,” explained Boric, who, however, regrets that those who “have decided to cut off the routes to Chileans have not wanted to join these conversations. “.
