Zelenskyj has been invited to the G20 summit

Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited him, Zelenskyj said on Twitter. There was initially no comment from the Presidential Office and the Foreign Ministry in the Southeast Asian country. Russian President Vladimir Putin is also planning to travel to the G20 meeting on November 15 and 16 in Bali.

“I am grateful for the invitation to participate in the G20 summit,” Zelenskyy wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday. Widodo therefore issued the invitation in a telephone conversation.

Indonesia is hosting the G20 summit this year. The invitation is piquant because Russia is a member of the G20. At the end of March, Lyudmila Vorobyova, the Russian ambassador to Indonesia, said Putin “intended to come to the G20 meeting”. However, the Kremlin later said it was too early to talk about it. It has not been decided.

Russia’s Finance Minister Anton Siluanov attended a G20 finance ministers’ meeting this month despite protests. While western industrialized countries want to expel Russia from the G20 because of the war of aggression against Ukraine, Brazil and China have opposed expulsion.
